on Friday 31st March our hockey girls set out to defend the Mid Ulster shield at Ferris Park Dromore. After a soaking wet morning the sun had come out and it was shaping up to be a beautiful day for hockey. Our girls got off to a great start beating Edenderry Portadown 2-0 in their opening game. They kept putting the pressure on in their next two games but couldn't come up with a breakthrough against Seagoe or Waringstown and both games finished as a draw. We then faced a very strong Maralin team, the girls fought hard but couldn't come up with the win loosing 2-0. Next up was Abercorn, like the other games the two teams have played against each other, this was an extremely close fought affair, Abercorn nicked the win right on the final whistle, the game finishing 1-0 to Abercorn. We had one game left against Armstrong & the girls had picked themselves back up again and put on a fantastic display running out deserved winners 1-0. The girls fought hard all day but today it was not be and Abercorn were crowned Mid Ulster Champions.
This signalled the end of another hockey season and one which has been incredibly enjoyable. Each and everyone of the girls has been an absolute credit to both themselves and to the school, they have been a pleasure to coach and work with. A big thank you to all the girls for all their effort, drive and commitment this season and also to all the parents that have faithfully supported us at games and tournaments as well as supplying lifts (and the odd tea or coffee).
